As other posters have pointed out, the 24-105mm f4L isn't really a macro lens, it isn't even a particularly good lens for getting close-ups. If you're getting a single lens for a 7D, then I'd suggest you get a EF-S 15-85mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM lens, the 24-105mm range is a little long for an APS-C DSLR like the 7D.
